Seemingly, the South Americans were in a good position to avoid any unpleasant situations, as they had a 0:2 lead after seventy-three minutes of play which was brought to them by Mollina and Messi (a penalty), but that couldn’t be further from the truth, as the Europeans managed to reduce in the 83rd, and after a very clever free-kick execution practically in the last seconds, successfully added one more to the scoreline here.
Eventually, it all came down to the penalties, and Argentina showed better overall mental stability and earned their ticket for the next phase of the tournament.
Croatia continues to push the boundaries higher and higher, as they managed to deliver quite a shock to the community in their latest clash with much-favored Brazil when they leap forward after a textbook demonstration of what it means to play for your national team.
The European outfit was in a subordinate position in a regular part, but managed to withstand the pressure, and moved the match to an extra time. Things were not locking well for them, as they conceded over Neimar, but once again, showed just how strong their mind is, and managed to bounce back over Petkovic in the continuation, leaving another match of the quarter-finals to be decided after the penalty shootout.
The saying goes that it’s a lottery, but the Croats proved that statement wrong, and once again beat their opponent in the most emotional way possible.
Couldn’t be any spicier
Both nations are coming to this clash after truly dramatic scenarios last time out, and chances are high, at least in my opinion, that the upcoming one would be no different.
The odds are significantly with the Argentinians, but the Croats proved that has little or no importance as far as they are concerned, raising the probability that this clash would be decided in detail.
With that being said, a true battle is definitely ahead, and Croats are definitely once again ready to play committed football and stop Argentinians one way or another, in similar way to what they did to Brazil. Low stakes though.
